Birdy Wei-Ting Hung

Birdy Wei-Ting Hung is a Student Academy Award® winner who has been featured in Filmmaker Magazine’s annual “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” She holds a M.F.A. degree at San Francisco State University, the School of Cinema, where she researched genre films, cinematic pleasures, and Taiwanese film history in the martial law period. Her thesis film, A Brighter Summer Day for the Lady Avengers (Tribeca, Slamdance, Fantasia, SXSW Sydney, and 50 more festivals), won Bay Area Student Short Award at SFFilm, CAAM Fest, and a Student Academy Award®.
Birdy is a recipient of the Jennifer Hammett Endowed Scholarship, SFSU’s prestigious scholarship awarded to excellent teaching as a Graduate Student Instructor. Her current project crafts revenge fantasies based on Taiwanese film history through a feminist lens.
